Australia announces visa incentives for migrants, new occupations adscititious in ROL list.
In the consequential move, the Australian government recently announced changes in visa rules for skilled foreign migrants, artists and sportspersons.
Bold Measures
As a part of the measures taken, every skilled foreign migrant hired for seasonal work on farms will be given an extension for up to 4 years. It helps the farmers to handle and enable more workers in the labour force in large numbers.
Others granted 8-year visas and added to the long-term skills list are artists and sponsored sportspeople. The changes made or the intrepid measures taken within the Regional Occupation List (ROL) aim to mend the workforce shortages. Over the past few years, the number of local youth not filling the country’s jobs has deteriorated. The administration has also introduced a Permanent Residency pathway for these sponsored workers residing in the allotted areas. Besides the concessions in English language requirements, there are no constraints regarding their work experience and salary requirements.
On the contrary, filing a visa within the short-term shortage list was meant for two years. The source also added that it was difficult for the entire family to migrate to the country for work purposes.
Moreover, the number of skilled workers reduced drastically, although the demand in the horticulture segment increased. But with new visa rules, agriculture migrants can have the benefits of 4 years work visa and live in a particular area to find work in farming activity.
Likewise, sportspeople like tennis coaches, footballers and sponsored artists are among the 8 professions added to the long-term skills list. The changes will help the country’s football clubs attract international talent and promote sports at the international level.
Regional Occupation List
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection introduced the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Visa list in March last month. That is to say; it was the ROL addressing specific needs of regional Australia with the list valid for skilled visa programs. Under the visa program, applicants can apply for a Skilled Regional Provisional Visa – subclass 489 after meeting the eligibility conditions.
Other than that, the ROL lists help subclass 489 applicants nominated by the state or the territory government. These applicants can seek an invitation from the government after filing their applications before or after March 18, 2019. It is intriguing that the list targets individuals filing subclass 407, TSS(M) applications.

The new list has 59 occupations, also comprising the Regional Occupation demand list. Precisely, the government has enforced a regional visa to ease migrant population overcrowding in big cities such as Melbourne and Sydney. However, 23,000 individuals received their visa permits to work in any city outside the major cities.
Briefly, these significant changes apply to new visa applicants and will not affect those seeking nominations.
